I'm not a Weidman fan at all. I really don't care for him. However, it wasn't long ago he was undefeated and had some notable wins ( Hall, ...I would say Silva ..but Silva just acting like an idiot got him KO'd and the other fight he broke his leg so early so we never go to see that one play out. He beat Demian Maia and the dragon and that says plenty. The Maia fight was 2012 and Chris being a very good wrestler beat the BJJ master ... and beating the dragon's great karate is awesome because he did go on to lose to Gegard but the dragon beat Gegard.
The Vitor fight, he took everything Vitor had and then pounded him out real fast ( 1/2 way via R1 ) He went deep with Luke and Yoel ( and would have lost prob even if he didn't get hit w/ that flying knee. )
Finally, he was winning at first vs Gegard(Mousasi) and even though Dana thought he would have beat Weidman even if the so called illegal knees weren't used , that's pure speculation. Gegard is such an elite fighter, for Chris to even be winning for a while says a whole lot. Many of you may have seen Rory fight Gegard recently and could do absolutely zilch. I could go on and on about Mousasi. All this said, his last fight vs Gastelum ... lots of people regard him as very tough and Chris finished him if I re correctly , w/o too much friction and Jacare lost to him a year later ( indicator ) He beat Brunson and Vitor ( but that's not shit ) ...lost to Yoel and Whitaker ( of course ) ..but went distance with Yoel and did beat Mousasi. So, he is an interesting opponent capable of winning fights at anytime.
The reason I do like Chris Weidman at a nice priced ML of -177 is because one thing Chris is ...is consistent. His wrestling and ground and pound is very fundamentally sound. He wants the title shot again and I don't think he will take Jacare lightly. This fight could easily go the distance too even though the O/U is 2.5

Disappointed. Had my money also on Weidman. First 2 rounds he clearly won but i smelled trouble in the third when he started to brawl with Souza.

@Mack I hope that is not at me but I think it was. Yea, I have a clue sonny. I follow the UFC very tight. I was spot on but Chris took a left to the temple.
Outsider626 is right. Chris was clearly winning the entire fight but did make mistake of trying to brawl with him and it came to be big mistake.

Maybe Weidman would have played it more safe if he wasn't fighting in his home town.
The loud "USA" chants may also have encouraged him to go for a finish in the 3rd R.
who knows...
Souza has the better chin, that I do know.
