During his weekly appearance on the Buffalo Bills’ radio network, Senior NFL Writer John Clayton discussed the signing of veteran quarterback, Derek Anderson. by the Bills.
Clayton liked the signing but took things a few steps further than most. He believes that the Bills are best suited turning to the veteran sooner than later and playing him over rookie quarterback Josh Allen.
“I think the plan should be to get him up to speed as quick as possible and then maybe, within a week or two, to have him as the starting quarterback. I think that would be the better thing to do,” Clayton said.
Clayton pointed to the Bills most recent victory over the Titans as evidence that Allen is simply not ready to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Despite the victory, the rookie QB finished the game 10-for-19 with 82 yards and an interception.
“I still think that they’re rushing Josh Allen and I think you can see it, even though it was a very good victory over Tennessee, I mean what did he throw for? 57-yards? And so, I just think they’d be better served to have another quarterback in there and that other quarterback can’t be Nathan Peterman. So if DA’s [Derek Anderson’s] the guy, which he is… when he feels comfortable, have him take over the offense,” Clayton said.Comment -

After the game, Peterman said that he feels he is improving and does not feel like he’s operating under a dark cloud.
“I don’t feel snakebit,” Peterman said, via the Buffalo News. “I never feel like I’m a victim or anything like that, you know? It’s football. It’s life. Things don’t always bounce your way. … You just have to be able to take it how it comes, learn from it and keep fighting forward, and I think we showed a lot of fight out there today, and that’s what I’m proud of, really for our whole offense.”
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said after the game that he believes Peterman is an NFL quarterback, although the plans in Buffalo were to use rookie Josh Allen in that role.
