Pa. approves first sports-betting licenses for Parx, Hollywood casinos

Pennsylvania regulators on Wednesday approved the state's first two sports-betting licenses, and if a sudden shortage of flat-screen televisions occurs at local appliance outlets, blame the casinos.





The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board granted its first two sports-betting licenses to the operators of the Parx Casino in Bensalem and the Hollywood Casino in Dauphin County since the U.S. Supreme Court legalized nationwide sports wagering in May. Parx hopes to start taking bets in November, ahead of peak wagering season: the National Football League playoffs.


The owner of Parx Casino in Bensalem,
also wants to accept sports bets at its offtrack racing outlet in the heart of Philadelphia's stadium complex.


Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment Inc. filed the Parx application Friday with the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. A second application would allow sports wagering at the South Philadelphia Turf Club, just a few hundred feet from the venues for the city's professional sports teams.

Since I moved to Vegas, I watch a lot of sports at the casinos. I end up spending a lot of money on restaurants at the casinos. Sometimes I watch a late movie after the sports are done.
My point is, the purpose of sportsbooks are to create traffic, get people in the doors. Then people will spend more on whatever is at the casino. That might be the business model they are going with.

I work about five minutes from Parx too, which is nice. I can't access my NJ accounts while at work, since I'm not physically in NJ. I'm glad to hear Parx got it.
