Yankees starting pitcher in playoff game
Why start Severino who is out of form when you have the reliable Happ

He’s been better last three starts but yeah they should have gone with Happ or Tanaka. Either way he will be on short leash so possibility we see one of the other starters pitch.

Cause sevi is their guy, present and future ace, none those other guys have as much talent as he does in his pinky. Not to mention despite A’s bombing him a month ago their team hitting vs velo of 95 and higher is incredibly poor, sevi throws 95 warming up, the others dudes barley live above 90.

As David cone said and Michael Kay keeps repeating...you don't keep a Ferrari in the garage.

He has by far the highest upside. Pitched well last year in playoffs after wild card debacle and as 2dabank said he righted the ship his last 3 starts.

His start in Oakland is 100% irrelevant to me. Matchup means very little when dealing with an ace like severino. If hes right your not touching him and if hes off like he was in Oakland he will get hit.

Also much better at preventing home runs than happ or tanaka in general and that's huge in this ballpark

Yanks wont come out and say it but I think they looking ahead and really want Happ to pitch against Boston twice.

Really don't believe this at all.

If tbe decision is about anything but winning this one game its about keeping severinos confidence. He's been there ace and 3 months ago it was a foregone conclusion he would start this game.

I’d think they were all smoking crack in ny if they started happ or the jap over sevi! Don’t really care what ends up happening, this the 1st, best, and only way to go.

                      Former Twins prospect from Netherlands

Tall, decent stuff. One time thru lineup he'll be unhittable.

Because Severino won them the wild card last year as a rookie. And his perception going into that game was more shaky then than now by a long shot. Why get cute with Happ?

                          Ughh ..

Seveirno got 1 out in the wild card game.

The offense and bullpen bailed him.out.

                          That said...he so.redeem himself tonight
