Max Scherzer entered tonight's game with 290 strikeouts on the season needing to fan 10 in his final start of the year.
This is a huge milestone as on 17 pitchers have struck out 300 in a season and with this age of relievers starting games, and bullpens pitching the final four innings of games it may be a very long time before any pitcher strikes out 300 again in a season.
Well done Max, deGrom deserves the Cy Young, but Max had a monster too.

Scherzer becomes the 17th pitcher since 1900 to rack up 300 K's in a season, and the fifth since 2000, joining Randy Johnson, Curt Schilling, Clayton Kershaw, and Chris Sale. He's also a lock to lead his league in punchouts for a fourth straight season. In the divisional era, only Johnson and Nolan Ryan have done that.
