Lots of articles referring to this today. Total overreaction. I can't stand the college overtime from a betting perspective, when it comes to the over/under. Leave things as they are.

#3NO. Only thing NFL could do is keep playing OT until somebody wins, which will never happen given they shortened regular season OT to 10 minutes.Comment -

#8exactly. teams wouldn't mind being 9-5-1 instead of 9-6 going into week 16. no concern about playoff tie breakers if you win last game.Originally posted by jjgoldTies make the playoff picture more interestingComment -

#11Oh no, two ties to start the season and it opens a can of worms!
The NFL should just do what the NHL did to eliminate these massive amount of ties. Give everyone a participation point at the end of the fourth quarter, have the teams play 6 on 6 for 10 minutes in OT and if it's still tied have a shootout round where each QB is at his own 30 and tries to hit a WR standing in the end zone three times over.Comment -

#1415 minute overtime instead of the weak 10 minute one would solve this. not sure if players have spoken out publicly about it though. 90% of players more concerned with staying on rosters.Originally posted by ikid2groove415Ties are for bitches- almost all the players hate it -Comment -

#17College rules are a joke and would inflate already inflated stats.
Move it to 15,
Figure out a cool way to settle a tie if 15 mins pass and no winner. Hockey shoot outs etcComment -

#18nobody's mentioned yet the rule change a few years back which took away Sudden Death for the first score
The way it is now, the first score must be a TD to end the game.
A field goal gives the other team a crack at it. We haven't seen that version of a tie yet this year where both teams score a FG in Overtime and still ends in a tie.Comment -

#19very true. they have squeezed the overtime period on both ends. knocking off 5 minutes is ridiculous but giving a team a chance to kick a field goal off a coin flip wasn't right either. just go back to 15 minutes. be ready for more ties. guaranteed they will change it back next season.Originally posted by hotcrossnobody's mentioned yet the rule change a few years back which took away Sudden Death for the first score

#21Nothing wrong with TIES because NFL has tie breaking rules to declare division winners and wild cards.
College football does not have tie breaking rules and it all depends on a committee who makes it to the playoffs or bowl games.Comment -

#22but all those tiebreaker rules go out the window unless 2 teams finish with say a 9-6-1 record. number one requirement to make the playoffs is your W L record. a 9-6-1 team beats out a 9-7 and loses to a 10-6 team. no other tie breaking rules are needed in that case.Originally posted by pavyracerNothing wrong with TIES because NFL has tie breaking rules to declare division winners and wild cards.

#23It works both ways. A 9-6-1 could get you in the playoffs over a 9-7 team but not over a 10-6 team.Originally posted by unusialsusp5but all those tiebreaker rules go out the window unless 2 teams finish with say a 9-6-1 record. number one requirement to make the playoffs is your W L record. a 9-6-1 team beats out a 9-7 and loses to a 10-6 team. no other tie breaking rules are needed in that case.Comment -

#24NFL should go to field goals if tied after 10 minutes, BUT the kickers cannot participate only regular players.Originally posted by EdV38Oh no, two ties to start the season and it opens a can of worms!

Heck they could even make it more interesting if they restricted it to lineman do the FG kicking.
Yes I'm being facetious, the NFL is an unwatchable product anyways, it doesn't matter what they do.
And yes I bet NFL, I just don't watch.Comment -

#27What sucks about the 10 minute OT is if each team has kicked a field goal, you're already around the 2 minute warning. I was vouching for 20 minute OTs once they added the guaranteed possession rule.Comment -

#28Agree; back to 15 minute OT.
Tie breaker: If tied after OT, cheerleaders vs cheerleaders (football, mma, or even chicken [like ppl do in pools]). Only problems here are that there are no visiting team's cheerleaders at the game (we can fix that), and some teams still have no cheerleaders (and this would solve that issue).Comment
