They sent me an email yesterday advising me of a possibility of complications, and told me that change fees would be waived but that I'd have to pay difference in fares. Reasonable I thought, until I went to the link they provided and there were only a few options available with extra payment involved, all between $3000 and $10000. In this day and age of the internet, it didn't even cross my mind to call them on the phone but after your advice I did so, and I have been re-routed at no charge whatsoever, and even got the aisle seats that I prefer. Thanks again.

It now appears the storm is going to stall for about 3 days over land, just dumping up to 24 inches in some locations. Substantial wind up to 35 MPH with higher gusts. There is a large high that will keep the storm from moving up the coast and in a stationary position. I'm in MD, and now all they are saying is a few inches of rain, and some mild wind.

Exact same sort of experience with American Airlines after I missed an international flight. Online quoted me $2500 extra to get me there. Spoke to them and they fixed it for me with a $200 no show penalty total extra charge. (and I got a seat upgrade like you as well)

After trying Delta, United, Virgin and American on the SYD>LAX route, and Qantas to China all in the last 2 years, I'm surprised to say that AA was stand out as the most organized at airports, tightest gate security, best gate locations, newest aircraft, nicest food and staff and after my experience with the missed flight, ground staff are awesome too.

People had told to avoid them in past. They will be my first choice next time.

just an old fashioned lingering rain storm the type of which your mother would tell you do not go outside without your rubbers. you better not ruin your new school shoes and stay out of the puddles. instead, people are packing up 90% of their belongings and fleeing for the hills with nowhere to stay within 300 miles.

If you’re in a flood area then I’d definitely get out. Other than the coastal towns, everyone else will have to worry about power outages at the worst. As long as you don’t see Trump in your town tossing out paper towels then you should be fine.

I'm with ya Scottie2005. Presently I'm right in the path Hampstead, NC (20 miles north of Wilmington). All the business's closed at noon today. I'll be riding it out. Have 30 gallons of gas for the generator, plenty of food and water and everything secured. Will try to post some local pics after the storm. The storm won't keep us isolated very long but the flooding will have lasting effects. Predictions are that the storm will stall and we could get 25-40 inches of rain. I remember hurricane Floyd 1999 had devastating flooding after heavy rains.
