i'm from the era when everyone went to the track because it was the only legal game in town. no one even envisioned that you would be able to bet from home. in those days you bet games with a bookie over the phone with no totals and played cards. not holdem. bookies took horses but no way you could get results till next day. sometimes harness on radio in ny. wins i believe every 30 minutes. i am old but sharp. i was at saratoga when onion beat secretariat.

weaned on harness but the game is dead now. still somewhat bettable but they drug and cheat too much. ironically the meadowlands ruined harness racing starting in 1976 by draining off all the top trainers, drivers, horses and more importantly owners away from all the fairly successful mainly east coast tracks. the meadowlands flourished for 20 years and now they are almost done. if it weren't for casinos or racinos subsidizing purses there would be virtually no harness racing.

For the harness player the Meadowlands and Yonkers still have very competitive purses and cleaned up a lot of the so-called fixing.

Of Course you’re going to get some drivers that hold back horses here and there but for the most part it’s not a bad product now.

yonkers has purses propped up by that casino there. meadowlands hurting with no slots but has handle. yonkers no handle but they don't care as the place is vacuuming in money with that casino. meadowlands purses so bad no one wants to race there. driver colony horrific for overnites but stakes races draw the good ones. the kid astute but needs some fine tuning.
