I look at this thread almost every day for updates. Keep fighting big day. I don't know you in real life but as far as internet acquaintances go you always seemed like one of the best guys on any forum with your videos and positive vibes. I look forward to the day you beat this and are back posting.

Awesome Caring Bridge Update! Stealthy, you’re up! Work your magic!
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 1 hour ago Each and every post I debate on how to title it, today I decided H3 D3 which means Hospital 3 Day 3.
Yesterday, Andy had a blue die test. The objective was to find out if Andy was aspirating, the test in fact did find that he was. Today the team decided to change his trach to a Bivona which is smaller and they thought it would be a better fit for Andy. During speech this morning they did another blue die test to see if he was aspirating with his new trach... and so far things look really good! They then decided he could have a speaking valve on. It is so fun to understand him better. A couple quotes I MUST share are: That mosquito must have been 7 feet tall! and I sound like a monster. He also told his RT that she ruled and that she is good at reading lips and I am not. He shared a voice message with a couple of friends: hey guys, nice fish! We did hear some words when at Regions during his speech time as well but today he got to keep his speaking valve on since he was doing so well! We are working on strengthening his lungs and making sure he is increasing his volume when talking and keeping his valve on longer!
Today he worked hard with OT and PT as well! In PT he was able to hold his neck longer and did some moving/looking side to side. I mean this man is dedicated and amazing. While filling out 'About Me' poster one of the questions was, what makes you happy? He said, Mindy Babe, kids and fishing. When I asked what makes him frustrated he said, picking up dog poop and when the fridge doesn't have beer. I mean I don't want to brag but I think his cognition is there!!! WOW!
Dear God, we thank you for the support and the strides that Andy is making while battling this West Nile. Lord we ask that you please continue to help strengthen Andy's voice so that he is able to advocate for himself and to strengthen his muscles so he can reach his goal of walking. Lord, we walk with you in this journey and are grateful for your guidance along the way. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.

Hey guys! Sorry I have been absent, I couldn't login at the last hospital and now I am home (YEAH for the 3rd night in my home and bed!!!) I am so excited at the wit and comments Andy (Bigday) has had. It means he knows who I am and that he is still there cognitively!!! Thank God! It will be a very long journey and we will have to adapt our home but we hope he will be home by Christmas! Our two girls still have not seen him. I told our youngest (6) that he lost his voice when he was so sick and he is working on getting his voice back.
Thank you all for your support, well wishes, prayers, etc. You all are amazing!

I don’t know him personally, but have been following this story here. It’s amazing how one’s life can change so drastically virtually overnight. Thinking of, and praying for this family daily. From what I’ve read I have no doubt that Andy and family will come out of this stronger than ever.
Heartwarming to see the SBR community rally around this family. Well done!

Donations have begun to fall. So it’s time to start helping BIGDAY and his family again As of today SBR has sent $5,000 via Venmo to help out.
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 13 hours ago Today marks a very special day, for multiple reasons.
#1 Elsa got to see Andy!!
This is the first time Elsa has seen her dad since August 23rd when he left for Las Vegas. Today she shared a hug from a neighbor, hand squeezes, updates on dance and softball and a little bit of anxiousness. Before we left the driveway she shared an "EEEEK" I asked what is wrong and she stated she was just so excited to see daddy. Although she was a little timid upon entering and during the visit, when we got back into the truck, she asked when she could see him again!
#2 It is my birthday, 39 and holding...
Today I was blessed with an amazing day! Morning with Elsa and Andy, a massage, getting my hair done, and dinner with my amazing girls! Although the times are tough, the blessings are plenty. Thank you all for the amazing birthday wishes!
#3 Returning to work
Today my paperwork was accepted for me to return to work! I am so excited to meet the students of my new school and get back into some routines!
#4 The ventilator!
Today was day 2 of Andy not being put back on the ventilator for the night! This means he spent both of the nights off of his ventilator, breathing on his own! They did a blood gas, which tests his oxygen level and it was great!
Andy continues to fight hard and get stronger everyday. We are blessed for his resilience and determination!
If you believe in the power of prayer, please pray for: Andy to be in less pain, build strength, continue to find success in being off the ventilator.
#TeamAndy
With gratitude,
Mindy

Happy B'day! Keeping good thoughts for BD, he's lucky to have good people in his life.
Journal entry by Mindy McBride — 32 minutes ago Well a few things have happened in the last two days!
Yesterday, we had Andy's team meeting where all the therapists were present, doctor, Social Work and Nurse Management. The therapists (OT, PT, Speech) all reported that Andy was making great progress, trying really hard and it was showing! The preliminary date of transition was the week of October 22nd and he is on mark or ahead of schedule! The therapists all agreed he would be a great candidate for Acute Rehab (LOTS OF CHEER, not long term care/nursing home)!!! Yesterday they also wheeled out the ventilator!!!! (see pic below)
Today, Andy had a video swallow studied that showed he is aspirating. The team will start an electrode therapy on Monday to help strengthen his muscles. Andy felt really bad when we were talking about it. He said "I am sorry baby." I ensured him that he had nothing to be sorry about, that he did not do this to himself and he can't control what happened to him. I told him there are some things he can control. He can control how hard he tries, his attitude and his appreciation. I reiterated that he is doing all of those things so there isn't a single thing to be sorry about!
Today when I walked into the room I noticed that he wasn't on the dome/ T-piece anymore!!! Andy is now sporting a cap on his trach and is doing all of the breathing through his nose and mouth! He also stated to me his blood gas was really good this morning. His exact words were "the doctor told me that my blood gas was better than 99% of the people in Bethesda, including all the employees!" of course it was followed by a big smile!
Andy has loved getting mail so please feel free to send a note!

I just wanted to say a few words:
I think about Bigday and his family everyday no matter if I am on SBR or not. I miss the posts, plays, and vids Bigday gave us on a daily basis. SBR isn't the same without him and he will always be one of my favorite posters of all time. Guy is and always will be a SBR legend.
