As the dust settles from the first round of group games, Russia have shown that the FIFA rankings can be taken with a pinch of salt. The lowest ranked team of the tournament swept aside Saudi Arabia 5-0 on the opening day, and now face Egypt for the first time as an independent nation since the break-up of the USSR.
