#155You too Leisureman. I grew up with this stuff, actually wanted to move to England as a kid so I could go to all the showsPre-internet, stuff like this wasn't getting airplay in the states unless you lived in NYC, LA, etc. Definitely not Florida. Had to read Sounds/Kerrang etc. to keep up. There were a few local record shops that stocked plenty of imports, spent hours flipping through albums. Ah, the good old days

#158Loved the first few albums, lost their edge toward the end of Kelly's tenure. She left after the fourth album I believe. Like everything back then, the American releases were a mix of the Euro releases.Comment -

#162This thread reminding me of stuff I haven't dusted off in a while. Savatage is from my area (Tampa), they started as Avatar but due to copyright had to change their name just prior to releasing Sirens, their first album. Most familiar with them know Gutter Ballet, Hall of the Mountain King, etc., but this record is what turned me on to them. Criss Oliva was an excellent player, Dave Mustaine wanted him for Megadeth, ending up with Marty Friedman when he declined. I'd say it worked out for both. Sadly he was killed by a drunk driver on his way to Livestock, a music festival held for a number of years in Zephyrhills (north of Tampa). Like many in this thread, too many talents died too young. Still own this ep/single, bought it on a whim browsing a little record store near USF. Taking a shot and discovering new jams kind of like winning a bet
