My father was career air force and flew f-86's in the Korean war and f-105's in Vietnam...He never really talked about it, never went to parades, never flew the flag, didn't really care about all these celebrations smothered in displays of jingoism that glorify war. One time I said .."Happy Vetrans day dad!" he laughed and said "I don't give a shit about that son" when I asked him why he told me "nobodys fighting for our freedom, they're fighting for corporate interests, theyre fighting to steal resources (like oil) from smaller weaker countries".. He said "its stupid, I lost a lot of friends so somebody could make a lot of money"
