    Ohtani is killing it
After 1.5 months, dude is hitting .354, 5hr, 17RBI and a OPS well over a .1000. On the pitching side, he's 3-1, 4.10 ERA and is striking out 11 per nine innings.

I think we all thought he would have dropped off by now with the league adjusting but he's adjusted back and is really doing something historic so far.

Cheering for this young man - baseball needs him.

I think this is what he'll be forced to do eventually.

In all reality this isnt the first guy who's come along in sports who excels at more than one position.

It's just that there's such a huge investment by teams that they want to limit them.

They got this guy for 2 mil plus the league minimum wage for 6 years. It's almost a free roll for the Angels.

He's not allowed to leave for six years. In Baseball, teams get complete control over a rookie player for six years.

                The guy is amazing.

He's probably the fastest guy on the team, too. Even faster than Trout.

Why? He clearly has ability to hit and pitch. Seems silly to take one of those away.

What makes you think it any more likely that anyone else?? He didn't get hurt doing same thing in Japan correct?? Obviously there may come a time he will have to choose between the 2 but at the moment he helping his team in many ways, it would be stupid to not take advantage of all he able to bring to the club!!

Why is he paid so little. Didnt other guys get big contracts as soon as they came over?

                            Is it based on age?

Yes. At 23 he is subject to the same rules as new draftees.

If he waited 2 years to come to America it's estimated he would have earned 200 million instead of 5 mill over the same period.

That seems to suggest the guy is more about playing the game than just money too.

I will hold my judgement until next season. Wait until all these teams have seen him numerous times and have a full scouting report on him. He is doing well but, just like many young stars that break into the game, after the shock and awe period ends not all can adjust to the adjustments. We have seen it time and time again.
