Very weird - why would the jock look over his shoulder when he just needs to stay on course with the finish line in sight? Are you thinking there was something "crooked" about this race involving the jock?

Looked like the horse was drifting out and the jock took a look before bringing him in so he wouldn't interfere with other horses but he (or the horse) over-corrected.
