Loyola completely took Michigan out of their offense that entire 1st half and even in a good junk in the 2nd half. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Loyola defense was setup to force Michigan to take them 1 on 1 and Michigan couldn't do it and was just doing what I've seen Michigan teams do in the past and that is shoot a lot of 3s and they weren't going down.
The sequence at just under the 8 min mark of the 2nd half is when the game completely changed. Jordan Poole from Michigan instead of settling for a 3 point jump shot, attacked the basket and finished at the rim to cut it to 3. Michigan's defense which forced a total of seventeen turnovers which is why Michigan ultimately won the game, would then force Loyola to turn it over 5 times in a row while going on a 12-0 run.
If you would have told me that Loyola would have held Simpson and Rahkman to a total of 7 points I would have been
. If Wagner can do what he did today and these two play better Michigan definitely has a chance. That 3 is going to have to fall though against a team like Nova who can light it up too.
