Great story for the guy but if he started, he would be pulled in the 1st period most likely

It was a gimmick because Chicago’s has become so irrelevant

Awesome! I didn't even know they did that, kept a 3rd string goalie on hand to play for either team if need be

they have at least 2 every night. at least that's how i read it. and i was aware of it in general. guys like this accountant make it to the bench all the time. just not the game itself.

he gets free buffet dinner and non-alcoholic drinks most nights.

would love to also see a normal player have to play goalie.. probably play well.

not sure the odds would be incredibly skewed if this guy started a game. in analogous situations to this (seriously cramped tennis player, 3 on 5 basketball, walter payton with 104 temperature), the massive underdog party does quite well i've found. although 60 minutes might be too much.

EDIT: there are perhaps multiple emergency goalies as there is home/road. and not sure if you'd be assigned... college goalies are fairly common in canada (different eligibility rules for collegians. you don't lose all your eligibility for one pro game)

As great as this story is the rule doesn't really make much sense. Have two goalies and if both get hurt one of your other players puts on the pads. Happens in baseball and football plenty. A team is a team

I saw this yesterday really hit me when a couple guys on Hawks said after the game the boys were doing there best to help him out. This is as close you will ever come to a guy literally coming outta of the crowd and playing in a pro game , only in Hockey really happy for him to live his dream if only for a few minutes.
