Davidson has incredible value, I think the perception way off here and has created a nice play. I been talking RI up since beginning of the season and make no mistake I know they are a solid team who gonna be a tough out for anyone next week. That said right now this minute I believe Davidson the better team, damn sure playing the better ball anyways!
Anyone who knows me knows I'm a bit of a Davidson hater so this might come as a surprise. I've bet them every game this tourney tho (they beat me several times during season, I was lucky to get them with Bonnies in triple ot 11 days ago (last time I bet against them).
Against slu was a easy play, the things Davidson does well on defense only ways slu really scores many points, they control their defensive glass and don't commit fouls while playing defense. Knew slu would struggle to hit 60 and projected Davidson for 68-71. Wildcats even surprised me there, the way the offense shredded a incredibly gritty, tough nosed slu defense is what pushed me to playing them vs bonnies. Not a easy play at all for me as while I'm a Davidson mini hater I'm also bit of a Bonnies fan, however in that triple ot game Bonnies won Davidson showed me they can get looks from 3 and hit tough contested jumpers in big moments (have seen that from them several times this year where they just drill one dagger after another when a team is making a push against them).
In 2 tourney games Davidson shot 48% from behind the arc against a very solid slu perimeter d who were 4th in the a-10 holding opponents to 33.5% in league play. They followed that performance up by just destroying the Bonnies 23rd in country 3 point percentage defense to the tune of 16-29 or 55% with 23 assist and only 5 turnovers! (18-5 assist/turnover against slu!).
Now they get the a-10 best 3 point percentage defense in conference play in RI, Rhody has held them far below their season clip both games. Even doing so they still split on each other's home court. they have proved they can beat RI even without the 3 ball, right now in this game I do not believe RI is gonna take that away, it reasonable to expect a significant drop off from the last 2 but with way Davidson playing this instant I think it be foolish to expect them to shoot it below their season marks, st joes just shot 50% from 3 vs them! Davidson is clicking on all cylinders playing their best ball of the season as we speak, they came to win this tourney and they facing a RI team that weeks removed from last time they played their best ball. If both teams play their absolute best I fully expect this a dogfight that goes down to the last possession making the points significant imo. However if both teams continue playing with same form as the last week Davidson will walk out of here with the a-10 automatic bid and steal a spot fro some undeserving squad (hopefully st Mary's!)..Comment -
Houston +4.5 in the aac. Again current form favors the dog, no way cincy can bs their way thru this game like they have the previous 2 against inferior squads. Biggest decider in this one for me is Houston can hold their own on the glass with cincy, cougars very strong cleaning up their defensive glass (2nd in a-10 l) and when you don't allow cincy to punish you with second chance points their offense becomes incredibly average. Rob gray is balling out of his mind in this tourney. I like having this kids heart and a handful of points. If cincy brings their A game it will be a down to the wire classic, if not Houston will be cutting the nets..Comment -
