I am on the fence when it comes to guns. Being from Canada, we don't have many gun crimes but there are some. In the US, the most strict gun laws are in Chicago I believe, and that is the murder capital of the country I do believe.

I think he will try. Keep in mind the NRA has the congress in their pocket too. Trump's options are limited to executive order. But I could see him trying to get an appropriation to put adequate security in public schools.
