Why does everyone act like the NBA has been some pinnacle of great competition? Oh you must be referencing the great 80s when lakers/celtics dominated until they were too old to dominate anymore. And the pistons who were next in line by the time the celtics got too old. And then the bulls when the pistons were no longer in their prime. The truth is the NBA has always been a league of super teams. Don't you think kareem, magic, and worthy in the 80s was a super team? Seems like people have the worst memories.

Super teams aren't new. Buddies forming up is new. Bird/ Magic/ Jordan etc were associated with the teams they played for. Team USA/ Dream team has impacted this, as all the stars become best buddies...

4 franchises won titles in the 1980's and none of the super stars chased rings. That is the difference. From 2011 through now we have 5 different franchises with title wins. The difference.....2 of those franchises were LeBron chasing rings.
