The Jaguars picked up Bortles’s fifth-year option for next season, and that option will become fully guaranteed on March 14. But the team would be on the hook for $19 million once that deadline passes, and it remains to be seen whether the Jacksonville front office has seen enough from Bortles over his four-year career to commit to him long-term. As Dan Graziano wrote, the Jaguars have three options for handling his contract situation: sign him to an extension, let him play next season on the option and make a decision afterward, or let him walk. The third option seems ever more unlikely with every playoff win, but the team could turn back to the draft or chase a veteran like Kirk Cousins on the free agent market.

#6They had one year of success with him, that’s not enough to get paid imo. I’ve seen too many times a team like jags fall flat on their face the next seasonComment -

#8I think you do the same thing here that the Titans did with their head coach, Mike Mularkey. Let him go even thought your team took a step forward. There are definitely some options at that position to upgrade with in free agency. This team is about defense, and a good running game. You need a game manager. Alex Smith, maybe? Let someone else possibly overpay for Bortles.Comment -

#10alex smith. no way. I think the obvious choice is to try to get eli. He has a relationship with jax gm. Then you draft a young guy and let eli mentor him.Comment -

#13Contract has to be restructured. He's not going $19 million against the cap...that's crazy. He's earned his way into the tier 3 QB pay scale. $15-17 million a year. I wouldn't go more than 2-3 years. Team will probably make it front loaded on a fugazi 5 year deal or heavy signing bonus.Comment -

they will either release him pay him the 19 million see how he does in 2018 there is no way they are signing him to a long deal max contract if it happens you get all my bet points rest year i'm that confident bortles is not getting some hundred million dollar dealComment -

#19I believe they'll keep him this year due to support from teammates. That happens when players get caught in the emotion of playoff wins.
The issue being, their elite defense will be gone by the time they evaluate that Bortles is not a franchise QB. By then their superbowl window may have closed.Comment -
