Cole traded for Colin Moran, Joe Musgrove, Michael Feliz and Jason Martin. Pirates get 3 major league ready players, and Astros open up 2 spots on their 40 man roster. Now if the Astros, can get Holland in free agency, can you say......
The Pittsburgh Pirates have finally decided to move on from Gerrit Coleafter trading the right-handed pitcher to the Houston Astros on Saturday. The Pirates announced they will receive four players—infielder Colin Moran, pitchers Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz and outfielder Jason Martin—in exchange for Cole. The 27-year-old pitcher has been the subject of rampant trade rumors and speculation throughout the offseason. MLB.com's Jon Morosi even reported Wednesday the Pirates and Astros had agreed on a deal, though that turned out not to be the case at that time. Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow even addressed the speculation. "We do not have a deal," Luhnow told MLB.com's Brian McTaggart. "We are working on multiple things, but nothing is imminent."

It looks like a good trade for both teams.

Very happy. Best starting rotation in baseball. Keuchel, Verlander, Cole, McCullers, and Morton. Hate to lose Musgrove with 5 more years of control, but what can you do? Moran is going to be good, but Bregman is our man at 3rd. Now we need a left handed reliever, and IMO Greg Holland, and it is in the bag barring injuries.

We also kept our best prospects, and removed some of the glut we have on our 40 man roster.

Cole will do well with veterans like Keuchel and Verlander. I know that Pittsburgh has the "pitch whisperer" coaching there, but Brent Strom is no slouch as a pitching coach either. Only setback is that we could potentially lose 4 of our 5 starters within the next 2 years. Keuchel and Morton are free agents after this season, Verlander is signed until 2019, and Cole has just 2 more years of control left. I know this sounds crazy, but if one of our youngsters comes through, like Paulino or Martes, don't be shocked if the Astros trade Keuchel to replenish the farm system since Boras is his agent.
