Coach it started when I was a freshmen in high school. I was tall and very skinny with an acne problem and I got picked on. I was just good enough at basketball for the varsity players to make fun of me. My brother had just graduated at the same school as a good soccer player and a popular guy. He had crossed over to volleyball.
One day me and a few friends decided to play a little volleyball at the local court, in the best player's back yard. He reported to my brother that he watched us and it was total "zuul ball" (meaning awful) but that there was some potential there.
I spent the next year or so in the backyard with my brother hitting the volleyball around, doing pushups and lifting weights. Eventually I became the replacement for the weakest player in the big kid's game. I was so much worse than the three of them. I got hit in the face over and over again with the ball. Laughed at. But they kept inviting me.
I kept working out and kept hitting the ball with my friends.
Flash forward to senior year. Me and my friends are the best players in the area, I am captain of the indoor team. I have a very hot girlfriend - bj's on the reg. Other girls after me. We win state. We win tournaments on the beach.I meet some of the best players in the world. At one point I was easily a top 4,000 player in the country.
All because the big kids decided to let me play in their game.
