Perfect example of how/why the stat nerd oddsmakers should watch a game every once in a while instead of being zombies to their formulas and systems.

I know next to nothing about the NHL, but I do know a team from their own backyard is owning the books' asses and has been for quite some time. I've seen zero adjustments for their legitimacy by the "experts."

I read one article saying it was the 'Vegas flu' that were killing teams. Which i find is a load of crap.

Coach Gerard Gallant took a last place Florida Panthers and put them into first place before being fired.
I think coaching, and a bunch of gritty guys with a good work ethic is the reality.

Am I surprised they are in 1st at this point? of course I am, but they didn't get career AHL guys to start, they got to "poach" some damn good players from other teams guys, settle down. All that said it's great for the sport, so I'm happy

I'm a huge stat nerd, only run statistical models. That being said, I have bet on vegas the most of any team this season.

Yeah, but that in itself didn't mean much, since every previous expansion team had been garbage out of the gate. Vegas could be .500 and would still be "the best expansion team ever."

Thats the truth. I find it amusing when the mocking comes from guys who nothing about the given subject. If you follow the NHL, you know that rules of the expansion draft arent what they were in the 70's. When teams only get to protect 8 players, there is no question Vegas had an opportunity to secure some excellent players, which they did. Ive really enjoyed watching them, and look forward to seeing if they can make some history.

Gallant is a good coach and Florida was stupid to let him go. They also got gifted some pretty good talent by the league. Instead of moving a southern team like Arizona there, the NHL chose to force teams to give them players to make them more appealing right away. None of this is coincidence. The NHL is taking advantage of a market that isn't plowed yet(until the Raiders show up) by the other major sports and they knew by forcing expansion instead of moving a bad team there it would be better opportunity all-around.
