CKid, you're right. The lateral close to line of scrimmage never works.

Have to get downfield on initial pass. Lot of possibilities:
1) Hail Mary
2) Tipped Pass
3) Pass Interference
4) Hook + Ladder, but it has to start w/ 30-yard downfield pass
5) Chance for defensive penalty

Yeah, teams have now sniffed this out. They know the PREVENT DEFENSE vs this particular play is effective. If u have 11 men behind the ball, the multiple rugby laterals become impossible. For one thing, a rugby field is quite a bit wider than a regulation football field.
