I've noticed in ncaab so far that buyin a point or the 1/2 hook has done well for me, It's early but it worked last year.

Books aren't going to allow you to buy points so that it favors you. They have the probabilities figured out for each 1/2 point you buy. When you pay that extra juice for that half point the extra juice will cost you in the long run.
