New Jersey: Cruising with on-line gambling
New Jersey online gambling has passed the $200-million mark for 2017, a new high for the four-year-old Atlantic City internet betting industry. New Jersey authorized online gambling in 2013 to give a boost to the struggling brick-and-mortar casino industry, and the wager has paid off in a big way.
The state’s online gambling operators reported internet gaming win of $20.6 million in October, an increase of 23.4 percent year-over-year compared to the $16.7 million won in October 2016, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
The industry’s total gaming win (online plus brick-and-mortar) for the month was $206.4 million compared to $203 million for October 2016, reflecting a 1.7 percent increase, regulators said.
Through the first 10 months of 2017, internet gaming win increased 26.7 percent to $204.2 million, compared to the same period last year when revenue was $161.1 million. Total gaming win increased to $2.24 billion, an increase of 2.2 percent.
Of the $204.2 million in internet gaming revenue through October, poker accounted for $20.5 million, down 8.1 percent compared to the $22.3 million raked last year. The other online casino games generated $183.7 million of the figure, up 32.3 percent.
New Jersey online poker revenue should see an uptick when the state kicks off a liquidity sharing deal with Nevada and Delaware, who are already linked up.
