I think its a bias way to look at things. Because a violent act happens, and people preach gun control that makes them a crazy liberal. In your other examples about acts of violence other restrictions are either put in place or threaten to be put in place for those situations so is it so bad that this act of violence not be met with a discussion on gun control. Higher security and the patriot act were implemented because of the crashing planes. Other countries with nuclear weapons or trying to build those are met with warnings from us, another deterrent for that act of violence. I'm not sure about the trucks running over people lol, I dont even remember that.
Also when you call one side unscientific, i think you could argue that the other side who tend to be more religious(which is fine) believes in many "higher beings" that one couldnt prove with science as well. As for global warming, theres so many arguments for both sides that who knows and obviously each side will preach their point to what is causing ice caps to melt and other acts so who is really right there?
