How Did DDD's Stiff Thread Work?

Okay all you computer savants, save it. You know how that worked but to me it's like a friggin magic trick. How did {....} make everyone see their own name and even in the comments I saw people (like The Giant) referring to me by name EVEN BEFORE I COMMENTED 6 PAGES LATER so if everyone saw their own name in subject once they clicked on the thread link did they also see posters referring to them before they posted in the thread?

The thread got me good. I was at work and checked SBR on my smoke break and was like "What the hell!!" Still being a newbie here, dwelling on it at work for a split second I thought "Oh crap! Those 6 betpoints I get daily are loans and Im suppose to pay them back!" Then after 10 seconds I realized that that couldnt be it. Next break I had more time to read the thread and then figured it out. Genius post!!
