I have always admitted, that I know very little about tech. and computers. However having an economist back ground, I can say.....if one can "mine" a form of value....it's worthless, because it is like counterfeiting a currency !! However it does come down to the simple fact....will someone accept it as a form of bartering.?

So...gold is worthless...? As is any other product that is produced?

A good has value as soon as there's a market for it. I can create something that has value by brushing some paint on a canvas...as soon as someone is willing to buy it, it has value.

Bitcoin will continue to go up as long as demand > supply (and supply = new bitcoins being mined + existing bitcoins being up for sale).

                                  btc is a decentralized currency
eth is a platform on which dapps (decentralized applications) can run off it, also has smart contract applications.

they serve different purposes like gold vs aluminum…

I started collecting baseball cards in the 80s because cards from 60s and 70s were valuable. So did every other kid from the 80s. Those cards ain't worth nothing today. Market got saturated we were all 10 years to late.

Bitcoin has a few big problems

                                        1. Not backed or insured
2 It really doesn't work as a currency you cant really use it for every day transactions as the value fluctuates to much
3 It is a one way trade right now cant be shorted but that wont last forever

No doubt. I remember at the time you could buy a complete Topps set of say 1989 for 20 bucks. 30 years later I still see these sets for sale at the same price. Figure in inflation it's like half of the original value.

Not one good point made in this thread. I've been on bitcoin since it was at $15. Unfortunately never held and just used it for gambling.

Cryptocurrencies will continue to rise for one simple reason and that is that old people people don't understand it and young people do. Those old people will die, the young people will become old an will also have more money, and then old people and young people will understand it. The "demand" and the "market" will continue to increase as all the old people scared of computers dies off, and are replaced with people who get it.

All those cards from the 80's and 90's actually went down in value. I did the same thing in the early 90's. I bought all the star player rookie cards complete sets unopened. I thought it would make me a millionaire. I looked up the prices of this crap I bought and the stuff is worth less now than it was then. It's because they made so many of them.

I guess if there was usd mass-inflation or something maybe, but isn't too realistic. Bitcoin will have to undergo a lot of changes just to keep it secure and also balance that with making it easier to use, and other crypto solutions are already starting to prove themselves. A better question might be the value of the cryptocurrency market as a whole, or if decentralization will even work out well in the coming years.
