For Charlie Morton and a couple other minor leaguers.

It's a GREAT pick up for the Bravos and it was clear after 40+ games that Jordan Schaffer wasn't the answer. At least not this year...

Now the outfield is perfect. I hope they make Escobar hit first, McClouth second, Chipper, McCann, Anderson, Kotchman. This lineup will score lots of runs and with the pitching being solid as is now with starters going 6-7 innings and Moylan, Soriano and Gonzalez finishing up the Braves will win the Division.

Mclouth is not a good choice for a # 2 hitter.... too many holes in his swing, pulls the ball too much, doesn't take pitches, can't bunt

Looks like the Braves are serious about this year. They really think they have a contender. They did a lot today...releasing Glavine and then this pickup.
What was this Morton Kid like? What kind of player did the Braves give up?

He only had a couple bad innings when he came back too early from rehab. He has been solid the last 30 days.

Morton was mediocre in his minor league career.... until he did very well in a short period of time in AAA last year... got called up to pitch with the braves..didn't do so well... had another very good start at AAA this year... under 3 era combined there in about 15 starts

Why do the Braves continue to think McClouth is a starting major league centerfielder after getting off the DL?

Great news.
Kinda sucks that Gregor Blanco can't be recalled for four more days, but I can live with that.

Gwinnett Braves ballpark is 2 miles from my house. I may go watch Nate tonight. After the huge collision with Heyward he is not the same.

McCLouth is a bum. Plain and simple.
Also, Moylan is a bum. Johnny Venters for president.

That's because you only look at the offensive numbers. He is the best defensive outfielder the Braves have. Rarely if ever he makes an error and he has saved pitchers from big innings. Notice that Braves starting ERA is higher when Nate is not the starting center fielder.

I don't give a shit how good of a defender someone is if they aren't even hitting their weight.

Pavy, you could be the greatest defensive outfielder in history..... but you still aren't worth it if your OPS is .544. Mclouth's defense is actually very over-rated.... one of the reasons they pirates got rid of him, was his poor route running and poor jumps on balls..... somtimes it looks like he makes a great play.... but its a routine catch for most centerfielders but because he gets a horrible jump, and takes a circuitious route he ends up having to dive for it.....
McClouth was just a guy that hit well for a small period of time and would be better in a platoon situation and as a 5th outfielder, preferably in right...

The Braves didn't lose any talent to acquire him. I think Morton did worse for the Pirates. But when the Braves acquired Cabrera this year it gives them the option to send McLouth to minors when he struggles. Also Heyward and Diaz spend time on DL so it's always nice to have extra outfielders to spare.

Well the Braves are leading the East and Pirates are at the bottom of Central. With a 30 million payroll the Pirates will have to trade Locke and Hernandez if they ever become major leaguers because they can't afford to pay them.

Actually Gorkys is just having an average year in AA .266 avg only 17 steals, very little power......and i'm not sure how he would fit into the pirates outfield picture anyways...
Locke is in AA 10-3 with a 1.59 ERA 100 so's in 103 innings

Yeah Gorkys was never a power guy with us. Kinda frustrating to see those numbers Locke's putting up, guy pitched like shit in his last year with us wherever he was if I recall correctly.

so great that the Pirates still have all 3 players in uniform today that they traded Nate McClouth away for from the Braves as they face the Braves today with one of those pitchers starting
