NCAA Rules UCF Kicker Ineligible Because He Makes Money On Youtube

University of Central Florida place-kicker Donald De La Haye had to choose between making YouTube videos and playing college football, and he chose YouTube. UCF announced Monday that De La Haye has been ruled ineligible to play for the school's team. The decision came after De La Haye refused to agree to an NCAA waiver that dictated the types of videos he could create and post to his monetized YouTube channel under the name "Deestroying."

A report by the Orlando Sentinel details UCF's statement regarding the NCAA waiver: "The waiver, which was granted, stated De La Haye could maintain his eligibility and continue to monetize videos that did not reference his status as a student-athlete or depict his football skill or ability. The waiver also allowed him to create videos that referenced his status as a student-athlete or depict his football skill or ability if they were posted to a non-monetized account. De La Haye chose not to accept the conditions of the waiver and has therefore been ruled ineligible to compete in NCAA-sanctioned competition. UCF Athletics wishes him the best in his future endeavors."

NCAA rules are so weird. A lot of people don't know... you can bowl until you're 21 or 22 years of age. Still be considered a Youth Bowler. But, if anyone ever finds out you were gambling on the side... "bowling for money" you can be punished and lose your scholarship... then forced to join ABC sanctions (Men's League.)

Clearly NCAA doesn't want to ever hear about an athlete making money on anything sports related.

Completely ridiculous on the NCAA's part. The kid on his own time is making videos and found a niche where he can earn legal and taxable income and they punish him. The NCAA didn't teach him how to kick a ball.

I have been saying for years student atheletes should have the abilty to make as much money as they want and get paid by whoever is willing to pay them just so long as they dont represent the school in any form. Meaning if they go to UCF they cant wear a UCF uniform or mention UCFs name in advertising. I dont think the school should pay them but if Pepsi or Coke wants to fine.This student should really lawyer up and sue the school.Now if he was real smart he would create a business LLC company and still do the videos and get paid by the company. Theres not a darn thing they can do about it. If they kick him off the team sue them.The truth is you are a either a contract employee of the school or you are not.its up to the judge and the supreme court.

A guy named Donald Igwebuike. He kicked for Tampa and Minnesota. He was busted for Heroin. He for sure fixed games. That dude was a Stone Cold Criminal. Just like MOST of them!! The reason you don't see Black field goal kickers is because they can't handle the pressure. My home town (Akron,Ohio) has an all black school that has won some state championships. If they had a punter or a kicker, they would have won a few more. Up until recently kickers didn't dance after they kicked the ball. Now my team the Raiders have a dancing idiot punter. So, you may start seeing more black kickers now that they can do an African Fire dance.
