Need some help here on fair/foul balls

Negative. The fair/foul rule tells you that a ball is live and in play. The ground rule double is a seperate rule for a batted fair ball that exits the grounds, not on the fly, therefore, not being a HR. The player's head/equipment is not a part of the GROUNDS. A player may cause the ball to leave on the fly and that is a HR. Just as a player can take away a HR for an out for a ball that is over the wall and past it if caught on the fly and his body remains in the grounds.

I know the rules and you are arguing for the rules but I say the rules, as written, are wrong

I get what you are saying. However, the ball hits a player in fair territory, it is live. That is one rule. Now, the only other thing that matters is if the ball lands out of the grounds. If the ball hits a player and it ends up going into the left or right field stands, it is a ground rule double. If it goes over the back fence, it is a homerun. These are simply ground rules. You need to combine the two to correctly explain the AAA kid from the other day or the infamous Canseco play.

Rudy, if you dislike the rules, you are going to need to treat the top of the home run fence as a goal line. So, if a fielder jumps to "rob" a home run and it hits off the glove before the ball was going to leave the park and then leaves...under what you want, that would be a ground rule double. Far too convoluted for a play that happens once every 25 years...if that.

I only made this thread because I said if cuse was pitcher, itd either go out of play behind home plate or a homerun...so it got me thinking


we cant even compare this to any other sport

Ok, so let's say it's going to be close to the top of the wall/going over. Now, it's a judgment call that is going to be difficult to determine. It's just the rules. Kids are taught at a young age that if you are going to make a play on a tough foul ball, make sure you are in foul territory when you touch it.
