#38Originally posted by Fidel_CashFlowI know Ripken wouldnt be brought up all time
but outside of the incredible games played streak
he was an average baseball player stat wise
I liked Ripken myself but he shouldnt be considered up there with the greatest of the greats ......Comment -

#39not a bad article at all Grease
but you gotta realize we are talking overrated
as in considered greatest of the greats
and in that category there could be an argument either way for each player
id even throw Jeter in that same group as overrated possibly
Complete career MLB stats for the Baltimore Orioles Third Baseman Cal Ripken on ESPN. Includes games played, hits and home runs per MLB season.
had a bit more home runs than I thought
but those stats are inflated because he got in a extra 100 at bats more than most players each year
He was good, real good .... but still overrated imo

#46He was an amazing player thoughOriginally posted by 19th HoleCal Ripken definitely. His greatest accomplishment was getting out of bed everyday.
I doubt I could make it to 2,632 games of bingo in a row without getting injured or taking a sick day
He had that ugly but short stroke that could line it quickly (and i mean quickly ) out of the park
Played in a beautiful stadium and had a very memorable end of streak game
But still overrated when its based on stats and production against other players who are considered legendary
Soooo many players that could be considered top overrated of all time and a few of them
are pitchers who started for the Yankees when they won all those World Series
Average pitchers stat wise that are considered great because of success in World Series Championships
and in the win loss departmentComment -

#56I'm not so sure about that analogy... without going too far into the Manning / Brady rivalry, Manning is 3-2 against Brady in the playoffs. Brady has played under the best coach in the history of the NFL and always had a top notch defense, while Manning has played for a bunch of bums aside from Tony Dungy, with no defense until he got to the Broncos, and still found ways to be the best. What would Manning have done if you put him under Belichick?Originally posted by eidolonKershaw = Peyton Manning

#61Ryan Howard is a interesting choice but he did have 6 seasons in a row where
he had some crazy RBI and home run totals from 2006 through 2011
2006 -58 homers -149 ribbies
2007-47 homers - 136 ribbies
2008-48 homers-146 ribbies
2009-45 homers -141 ribbies
2010-31 homers - 108 ribbies
2011-33 homers -116 ribbies
as much as I want to throw him in the group I just cant with those
6 seasons one after another of almost unheard of production at the timeComment -

dont want you to ruin this thread to so last post to you here
Your posts actually mess up the fluidity because it will go off track
even when a good discussion is going once you come into the mix
it gets derailed and the posts with relativity are back another page
because you pollute whatever was originally being discussed
which sucks because you should be thankful you are allowed to post here at allComment -
