You can only hold tickets on American for 24 hours if flight is booked at least 7 days in advance. If a flight is put on hold and departure is less than 7 days, you have to book by 11:59pm same day of putting ticket on hold.

i have heard of an extended hold for certain routes on American but there is an extra fee for that.

next time try calling the agent and ask that your ticket be put as "pick up at airport". I guarantee this will work with American

well out of 5 trips given away, they had 9 cancellations, not a good look for sbr when people won't even take free airfare/hotel to hang out at their conference

i think less people would've cancelled going to an accounting convention

I don't think the cancellations are indicative to what SBR is rolling out. I'm sure many don't have a passport, the upfront money to purchase their ticket or the where with all to interact with human beings without the use of a keyboard. It should be a great time although I do wish some of the poker guys would have made the trip. Am deff looking forward to seeing Big O, Booya, finally meeting up with Stealthy & enjoying a few rounds of golf.
