This shit reminds me when baseball salaries stated going thru the roof. Hopefully NBA will follow in the same path and become a nonfactor for fans.

But, don't forget, the top surgeon has a career that could be literally 10x longer than the average NBA player. These athletes have such a limited window to make money, unless they are the top elite, once they hit 30s they are done making big money. 30s! These surgeons, doctors, lawyers, could work for another 40+ years and make the same they make if not more.Comment -

#13Plus, the smart ones are making tons of money on the side whether through patent deals, speaking, etc.... Just go to the sunshine act webpage and look through some of the top grossing docs, one made over $50,000,000 on a patent. Theres a lot of money to be had for the top surgeons but I agree, it's nowhere near what the top athletes make.Originally posted by pattymayoIt's all about money... people pay to go see these franchises, they get insane TV deals, we should be at least happy its not stingy greedy owners pocketing all the $. I wonder if it has something to do with thirty or forty thousand people paying anywhere from $50-$1000 a night a few nights a week to play some game. Throw in the huge billion dollar TV contracts and the contracts make sense.
If Americans would get off their fat, lazy asses then maybe athletes wouldn't make so much.Comment -

#15Ask any top surgeon, I guarantee they would take their lifetime earnings over that of an NBA star. No worries of blowing your knee out at age 26. No worries of their career and earning power being completely finished by age 33 (unless they are Lebron or a top tier player). You a big time doctor, you set your own hours all year long. Work whenever you want.Originally posted by The KrakenPlus, the smart ones are making tons of money on the side whether through patent deals, speaking, etc.... Athletes are always going to make a ton, because the average person tunes in, and its cheap to do so. But look around, the average athlete isn't making much past the age of 30. They are done earning, and have nothing to fall back on, unless of course they made good investments. The lawyers, top surgeons, etc, at age 30 are just beginning and making a ton, only making more, and will do so for the next 30+ years if they want.Comment -

#18People complain and still go to the games. If someone's willing to pay $5000+ for court side seats each night +huge TV deals then stars better get paid. This is prolly chump change to the owners. Add to that these guys basically have to deal with stupid media and fans everytime when they leave the house, I'd say they better line their pockets. What I'm against is knowing its prolly Cavs vs GSW in the finals again next year. . . but hey, at least Russ got some helpComment -

#19Why do people think that athletes deserve the money but don't want owners to get rich?
If you own a business why would you want your employees controlling you?
Employees are just workers. They deserve to get paid and some deserve more than others based on what they can do. I don't see the difference between LeBron James and a celebrity chef. Bench players in the NBA are equivalent to part time dishwashers. If they quit you just find some more off the street. Thats the part that pisses me off. Bench guys making a killing.Comment -

#20Another good point.. you are Paul George (and I use him because sure he's a star, but not LBJ, Harden, Curry stardom) you can't go anywhere without people recognizing you. Be a top surgeon making low millions a year into your 70s, nobody knows you when you leave the house, who wouldn't take that? Sure these athletes are overpaid but its only because people are willing to pay to see them in their stardom. But once they aren't stars, it's over for them.Originally posted by JaimeMiroPeople complain and still go to the games. #21You're smarter than that LB... if the 8th man on the Rockets quits, you'll just "find some more off the street" to replace him? That's the thing.. these guys have a skill set that few in this country have. And people pay to go watch the team, so that person is going to get paid. But you can't compare an NBA bench player to a part time dishwasher.Originally posted by lakerboyWhy do people think that athletes deserve the money but don't want owners to get rich?

#31Laker the Sixers franchise went from 600 million to 8 hundred million in one year plus the owner made 21 million last year for that garbage. The tv deal probably pays for most of thee guys salary while the owner gets everything else. The owners are fine. Let others have some money instead of one guy. That is what keeps an economy going as these athletes love to spend.Originally posted by lakerboyWhy do people think that athletes deserve the money but don't want owners to get rich?
