#41depends if you own the stable or not. nice bloodline will cost you a few thousand.. gotta have someone at the farm to feed the horse, replace the hay and so forth. gets pricey.Comment -

#42What you do is put the horse barn near kids and then sell them apples and carrots at 300% markup and make money on feeding the horse.Comment -

#43I've also owned 2 racehorses a few years back. The best thing to do if you're starting out is find some people who want to go in with you, at least 8 people, and learn the ropes from there. You are looking at around 20K per year to keep and race a horse. Keep in mind that money could comeback if you have a horse that stays healthy and races once a month about 9 month's out of the year. The main goal is to get most of your money back or get it to break even. If you do better than that, then that's the bonus. You will have to take out an owners license, which is a little over a hundred bucks for 2 years, after that you have to renew. It has perks like free entry to the track with a program every time you go along with free parking. It's a ton of fun. You may have to be patient with your first runner if you buy him or her as a two year old like I did, I waited 10 month's for my first race. Got 3rd. next race 3 weeks later, he won. I was so stoked.
Good luck in your venture.Comment -

#47Shute you don't have time to own a horse. Don't do it because you know jack shit about them and won't be able to afford the cost. Unless you own a good amount of acres on ranch land you are looking at thousands and thousands of dollars a month and that doesn't even consider buying a horse you are training to race.Comment -

#48Thanks for the advice unde.
Thought it would be good bonding experience; going in w my dad.
He has been involved in the horse business all his life. He would run the show and I would just follow along. Maybe someday before time runs out.Comment -

#55let me know the cost. My buddies father owned hall of mystery. It used to be 400 a month for feed and 25 day for buck board boy. I could tell you a lot of shit back in the day in 70's and 80's. Back in the 60's ,y buddies uncle went to mexico and bought this horse. At that time they could tell the horse by the tagging on the tongue. They stole the machine and tag this horse to a 7 yr old that was identical. They got busted by some mexican rider who knew the horse. By that time they had won so much . The outcome is they had to never go to a racing track. 2 years in the pockey. They were racing the horse at latonia downs(turfway park) arlington, ellis, keeneland and churchhill.Comment -

#69A broken horse?
nah dog you need a horse that is buck wild and unpredictable
a horse with a little edge and a mean streak
you talk about an adrenaline rush
get you a football helmet, knee pads and see how long you can last on a wild horse going 50 mph
If nothing else it would make one helluva youtube videoComment -
