Did not read the original post but you have to let non-PROS into BTP because it is really the only reason to be a PRO. It is the only reason I became a PRO.

If you have not been a PRO, you do not see why you should be one. But if you do well in BTP, you are going to want to be a PRO and then once you are a PRO you see how the whole thing works.

That would be great. But the big interest is football and SBR puts a lot of money into BTP. If they did other sports, BTP would take a hit. 80% of people are primarily interested in football and BTP. So SBR is smart to stick all their promo money in it. It is the best thing on the forums.

The BTP contest is the biggest shot that SBR has of getting people to become pros. I do it and cash in for Restaurant Gift Certificates that I give to my kids. It keeps me interested and my grandkids out of McD's.

I just threw out the idea after going through some football spreadsheets and the thread started to head towards those all too common political type posts that lack any constructive responses.

This is why I deleted my original text. I don't want parse through pages of off point posts. I rarely criticize others and don't like it when people want to trade insults. I just stop reading when there is no substantive discourse.

With that aside:

My initial thought was that requiring the contest to be pro only would give members an incentive to pay up and participate. Your personal experience of becoming pro has changed my position on the issue.

Perhaps your try before you buy position would indeed be best. We need more Pros to keep this board viable.

Fair. Btp was reason I went pro as well. Was in position to cash and figured it was worth it. Have not let it expire since. I've also posted this before as well but betpoints have a value to them. That value for non pros is substantially less so it "costs" sbr much less when non pros win betpoints as only a very small portion will ever be cashed in.

This is the dialogue I was hoping to read. After going through what I thought was a dead post, I have read some insightful comments.

BTP was awesome past few seasons. I would best the prick nearly every week. Take my free plays and turn them into real points. Cash them back into forum. Donate all profits to #cureangelman. Can't wait for this season!

Yeah, I finished 33rd two years ago and won $150 when they let non-PROs in. That was a bad decision. But the reality is that I would not have paid up even then because I did not think I would finish in the money.

I only went PRO last year for the contest and was reluctant to do so even then. Then I found out how much you make on SBR Trivia. But just reading about being PRO, I would never have even considered it because I had no idea how Trivia worked.

So SBR is trying to get more users with BTP and they do get some signups. A lot of people don't sign up but you can't really blame them because it really is hard to see the benefits of PRO from the outside.
