#13Aggressive play is harder than it looks...being a nit and folding to mincashes is much easier, especially in these formats where the payout structure is so skewed; regular structure being a nit just means you take longer to lose. Regardless, folding to small cashes and out-participating people might get you on a team, but will make for piss-poor performance in the actual world cup format, as bobbo has provenOriginally posted by chico2663when i play like waves than i cash. #15JJ's just trying to start controversey by saying the most outrageous thing he can think of in a poker thread, such as he did above, knowing full well it will stir up a reaction of overwhelming rejection of such a baseless comment by everyone else....
it's what JJ's paid to do.....
in reality, JJ -- just like the rest of us -- knows waves is pathetic and sucks at poker.....Comment -

#18when you go all in on aa and lose to a gut shot on a regular basis. Yesterday I lost jj,qq and kk as my hold cards. if i would of been aggressive than i would of never seen the final table. I played like waves an waited til I cash before I got aggressive and won. By the way I'm just learning holdem. What was great is catching big o bluffing at the final table. He is probably one of the greats on this site.Originally posted by Triple_D_BetAggressive play is harder than it looks...being a nit and folding to mincashes is much easier, especially in these formats where the payout structure is so skewed; regular structure being a nit just means you take longer to lose. #20Unluck while being aggressive or luck while being passive happens, but in the long run, being aggressive is the better strategy. Being passive works better at SBR than it does in any other poker format due to SBR's participation award structure (a normal tournament with 40 people would pay out 5 places, not 12, and it's a lot harder to passively fold to 5th than 12th). And before you try to emulate it, don't forget that most of bobbo's "success" comes from non-poker factors such as playing more than the average player and sitting around all day waiting to jump in the tournament with the least players...without those advantages, his performance would be even worse than mediocre.Originally posted by chico2663when you go all in on aa and lose to a gut shot on a regular basis. As long as you keep in mind that you're still learning and keep trying to learn you'll figure it out...it's only when people stop wanting to learn, or convince themselves that they've already got it all figured out, that they doom themselves to being bad players

#21well stated, tdb....
as I am often accused of being too wordy in my critiques, I will keep this one short, sweet and to the point, and use a simple photo (usually worth a thousand words, in this case, it's worth at least 10,000 negative words) to make the point:

no matter what the issue at hand might be, emulating the guy in the photo, whether it be wardrobe choice, workout schedule (more accurately, the lack of any workout schedule), drafting Mingle2 profile pages, choosing a bra (or failing to do so), preparing welfare applications, or even playing poker, will never turn out well.....Comment -
