A brain doesn't know the difference between taking blows in the NFL, college, high school, or pop warner. It definitely goes beyond lineman, they've found CTE in hockey players and they don't smash heads to that extent.

Hernandez was just 27 when he died, yet an autopsy of his brain showed he had Stage 3 CTE, the second-worst stage of the disease. His brain had also begun to shrink, and there were large holes in a central membrane.

To be clear, this is not normal, as was noted in a lawsuit filed Thursday against the NFL and the Patriots by Hernandez’s fiancée and their young daughter.

“The Boston University neuropathy report also notes that Aaron’s CTE pathology was unusually severe considering his age,” according to the lawsuit.

CTE scan showed the worst ever seen for someone his age.. That's alarming, but he could have been head butting stuff hard his entire life, not sure you can pin that down to just football. His head shape looked deformed to be begin with from profile angles as well..Slopping..

Boxing as well then because in sparring and in fights you are constantly experiencing head shots and brain trauma..

I don't see either sports dying out. If you are raised in a poor family in the hood chances are the kids will still enroll in football to keep them off the streets and out of trouble... Football is religion in the South as well..
