Unions are gone because of their greed. Rising wages meant rising prices everywhere. Business could no longer afford to pay the wages and demands without socking it to consumers. First, neither Iran, NK or ISIS have the capabilities to bring war to American soil. The only countries that could do that are China, Russia and probably India, with only Russia and China having any chance at inflicting serious damage.
