May as well just make it a million because it will never get close to $10,000 to find volunteers plus they'll never actually offer it. It's just a publicity ploy so whatever I guess.

$500 is very borderline. I did $800 each for my wife and I once but that was before boarding. Once on the plane, it's a little different. For $10000 though, I would walk from Chicago to Louisville.

Why Delta Air Lines Paid Me $11,000 Not To Fly To Florida This ...

6 days ago - Here's how you can make money from the airlines, too. ... She countered: $1,350 each. ... Do the math — my family and I made about $11,000 from Delta this weekend. ... that Delta is the airline most likely to pay people for volunteering their seats, compensating 10 out of every 10,000 bumped passengers.

So one should buy a ticket to anywhere and just sit in the airport and give up a seat. Sounds like an ok living to me.

If you travel enough, you know when the planes are packed . . . Monday mornings, late Friday afternoon, weekends around the holidays. My wife and I got $1,000 each returning home from North Carolina many years ago.

Mon morning and thurs afternoon. Airlines have gotten better about this but still money to be made. Was flying delta to Dallas for a while. Every Monday morning atl to dal they asked for volunteers. I started just telling client I would be in a few hours late and hoping for bump. Made enough over a few months of bumps to fly first class to Hawaii on passes never getting to Dallas more than 2 hours later than my "planned" flight.

This is exactly right. Only thing this does now is make people play more games. When you check in for flight that they think may be oversold delta asks you if you would be willing to volunteer and if so how much comp you would need. So they make you make that decision on a price point 90 mins or so before you actually know. They aren't stupid. So you can put max comp but I'll be amazed if anyone ever gets over $1,500.

It's all a PR move, in the United case they could have put them on a limo for the 5 hour drive before they would pay anybody 10k.

$10,000 was offered for this particular flight only, $10k is not the norm from delta.
