He's been a reliever his whole 10 year career.
He had back to back elite seasons closing for the Pirates.
But that was a few years ago, Last two seasons he's been horse shit.
He's had two elite years as a closer, one very good year, and the past two years he's a hit machine.

Closers have a shelf life of maybe 7 years then turn to crap.
That's why Hoffman and Mo Rivera are the greatest there ever was in this generation.
Mo did it for 19 years, with one pitch yet.
"Here it comes, the cutter, it's the only pitch I've been throwing for two decades, you know it's coming, yet you still can't touch it"

What a treat it was to watch Mo come in, he was "Mr. Automatic"

Craig Kimbrel is the best in the business right now, this is his 8th full season as a closer, he didn't pitch much as a rookie with the Braves.
Kimbrel has saved 30 or more in all nine season.
He did choke the last game of the ALDS last season, game 4 against Houston he coughed up 3 hits and a walk to allow Houston go ahead in the ninth inning.

Only time Mo didn't get it done was when Gonzo hit that hump back softy over the infield to win the World Series for the Diamondback.
Randy Johnson closed out that game for the Snakes as was filthy, down right nasty, so was Schilling.
