It'll only be an embarrassment if they lose. They were anywhere from -700 to -1000 on the sportsbooks. By comparison, the Cubs with Arrieta on the mound were -300 at home against the San Diego Padres, so Team USA is considered 2 or 3 times over a stronger favorite than the best team in the MLB last year with its best pitcher against an awful MLB team.
