He's one of those old school millionaires
Kind of millionaire that served in the Marines-tough guy

He was so tough, he personally went to Calgary 1988 Olympics, and broke a Russian hockey player out of the hotel and helped him defect in the peak of the Cold War

Accomplishments are many

4 days after I graduated high school, left for the Army (1993)

I can't tell you how the people of Detroit feel because I haven't lived their in decades
My opinion is he was good for hockey and good for Detroit

Red Wings will miss the post-season for the first time since Desert Storm, last time Ilitch saw the team as a loser

Nothing anybody can say against them, legitamately.

They handled salary cap casulaties'
Never given top draft picks, but drafted well
Farm system was good
overcame plenty of obstacles, never bitched

Not many people feel for an owner, but he was pretty beloved in the Detroit community.
