once these teams regular season ends intensity in practice ends for most. they just go through the motions in the weeks preceding these "exhibition bowl games". more intensity in a pre-season scrimmage. after a 12 game schedule they are tired of "football practice" and the coaches are tired of conducting it. so some of them just coast into these games without properly preparing.
