Yet, the NCAA hasn't done shit. They don't do shit about the SEC either. Multiple players admitting to receiving money. But, dig into Syracuse for 7 years finding minimal shit, and screw us over for years. Just because they knew the Bernie Fine nonsense was bullshit, slander, and lies, so had to find anything. The NCAA needs to be abolished.

Not the biggest upset ever, or anything like that. Yes, Duke had good players.

What made it (somewhat) surprising is a) how easily UNLV had dispatched Duke the year b4 and b) the streak that UNLV was riding.

The big swing in that game was Greg Anthony fouling out. If Anthony doesn't foul out, UNLV very likely holds on for a close win. Tark said that Weidman wasn't ready for the pressure.

What if Greg Anthony had not fouled out with 3:51 to player? What if an intentional foul had been called on Duke’s Bobby Hurley after he blatantly hacked Anderson Hunt in the second half? What if Larry Johnson had not received a technical foul for going after Hurley? What if?
What if coach Jerry Tarkanian put that small lineup on the floor earlier, which included Johnson guarding Duke’s Christian Laettner? What if UNLV had gotten credit for two baskets that were wiped out by offensive fouls and two Duke baskets that were credited on questionable goaltending calls?

Here's my take on historical games like that. View it from 3 points in time: 1) 24 hours b4 tipoff, 2) during the game, and 3) day after the game.

REality is that most analysts were conceding the title to UNLV. They were defending champs, had the core of team back. Like a pro team playing vs college boys.

Day after the game, Duke's win didn't seem so crazy, especially w/ emergence of Grant Hill. As Bart noted, Duke needed a lot of things to go right for them to get that win.

What set Laettner apart was stepping it up on big stage. Crazy to think the guy had TWO buzzer-beaters in Round of 8, when miss would have sent Duke home. How much does history change on a miss?

In the Round of 8, Laettner had 2 scorelines that were damn near perfect:
* Huge game vs Gtown/Mourning
* No-miss game vs KY

That game seems so long ago now. I remember I had a bunch of money on UNLV and bought into a bad line because I was emotionally vested that UNLV would beat the shit out of them. I can't really remember the game but I felt that Duke got all the fukking calls. It seemed totally one sided and really started my conspiracy thoughts in sports. I've hated Duke ever since and I see how the refs control the show.
