Why are NBA totals so high this season?
    What's the reasoning?

I don't remember there being this many totals well over 200 the last few years.

common place, defense will pick up second half of season when playoff race gets warm, players know when to pick up D.

Remember how baseball this year came out of the all star break on an Unders tear?

                Sorry Giant,

NBA is one tuff cookie. Still trying to crack this Da Vinci code.

Advanced metrics, true shooting percentage and less focus on defense. Seems pretty obvious.

Actually, doesn't look like the totals are set high enough.
                      O/U: 159-137-6 (53.7%) avg total: 206.7

Can be compared to the full 2015 season:
                      O/U: 624-660-32 (48.6%) avg total: 204.7

The 8 players that actually tried to play defense retired
