You are thinking like they would like to actually test it... but that is not the case. They will launch in some DB urban place within the whole foods store... and claim it is all legit as millionaires are thrilled to pay with not speaking to anybody.

#15I don't see why this would be exclusive to Amazon. Couldn't any chain store do this with an app? Does Amazon have some patent that prevents it?
As for the idea, it's asking for trouble. I can see arguments over what was purchased. Checkout not that hard.Comment -

#16Walk in without phone app
how will anyone know if some bum/ thug just goes in there to protest/loot?
Gonna spend a ton on security to replace cashiers at first I guess
i hope it works out because check out lines are EASILY the most frustrating thing in my life. 80 % sure I die of a heart attack in a check out line someday.Comment -

#18Watch the vid one more time - you can't get in, unless you scan your Amazon wallet. That scan will more, than likely create a temp debit auth on your acct or check if you have a valid CC on file.Originally posted by Plaza23There would need to be a couple layers of security at the entrance point. Their system would work very similarly to an RFID tag in which when an item of stolen clothing is passed through the RFID sensors near the exit of a store an alarm goes of.
In Amazon's case there is no alarm, this event instead would trigger the Amazon Go app to add items to the the customer's cart and charge your card when you walk out.

I guess they could try to run it like Sam's club where you have to swipe your Sam's card before being allowed in the store.Comment -

#30As an employer myself, those little dirtbags and their 15 bucks an hour can reap what they sow. Of course we just know it was the labor unions spending millions and it was far from a grass roots campaign, but they got what they wanted. Anything that saves me time I am for. Time is the most valuable thing any of us have, and we can't buy more of it... but this is close.Comment -

#34Yes, it's also 'illegal' for us to pump our own gas in Oregon.
That store is located in the middle of the $15 an hour sector, those clerks wouldn't have been making 5 bucks. When wages raise to the point where expensive tech starts to become worth implementing, companies will implement it. So what's to keep someone from just walking in and walking out with food? Is there going to be a greeter at the door making sure everyone 'checks in'?Comment
