Here is what you hypothetically do. Take all the money - leave a note - "I put the money in my safe deposit box" - this is very dangerous in the sock - house can burn down - hurricane - tree falls on the roof and rains in, etc. "I took care of this for you - you can thank me later!" Your uncle could get drunk and theoretically tell some ho and she would come home and chop you in the head with an axe to get the money.

So, your uncle might be a good guy in real life but think of all the people in this country that have and do come unglued for sums of money much less than 25k.
In my scenario, if this person in your story has no idea the sock is there you can feel good about keeping the money safe and not stealing it or being at risk to incredible anger and outrage if that is not true?
