what?? they came back and had it but the defense was horrible all game.

you cant rally talent you don't have that's 100% of the defense.

that first half had very little to do with this loss

When you are down 17 points at halftime, then yes, that first half had a lot to do with it. The defense tightened up for the first 20 minutes, or so, of the 2nd half. They reverted back to their first half habits at the end. Halftime inspirational speech wore off.

Another thing. What ultimately killed them in the end was bad time management by Herman. They had 1st and goal with 2 minutes left in the game. He was playing hurry up offense leaving 20-25 seconds on the play clock, instead of letting the time drag down, and leaving little time for Memphis on another possession. I know that he might have wanted to keep his tempo on offense, but 1:30 left on the clock after the TD can be an eternity, especially in college when they stop the clock after every first down. The defense let them down in the first half, and the end of the 4th quarter, but Herman left the door open for Memphis.
